Now in its eighth year, the Meteor Ireland Music Awards continue to go
from strength to strength and now nominated acts can look forward to a
boost in album sales due to the recognition that the Meteors bestows.
According to HMV Marketing Manager Jill Thomas, "2007 was another very
good year for Irish music, and it's really encouraging that quite a few
of the Meteor nominations recognise the wealth of home-grown talent
that's out there.
"It's great to see a mix of up and coming Irish musicians competing with
more established names in the key categories of Best Irish band and Best
Irish Male/Female. So you have the likes of Aslan and Ash up against
new-kids-on-the-block Delorentos and The Flaws for Best Irish band Award
as well as such talented new female artists as Cathy Davey and Roisin
Murphy pitted against icons of the calibre of Sinead O'Connor and
Dolores O'Riordan in the Best Irish Female category.
"These days pretty much all the nominated artists can look forward to a
lift in sales of their albums as they benefit from their association
with the Meteor Awards and the increased profile this gives them, while
the broadcast on RTE 2 will help the new artists in particular connect
with a much wider audience. HMV stores regularly experience a doubling
or even trebling of sales featuring Meteors artists, particularly those
that perform well on the night or go on to pick up one or more of the
awards."

Sony BMG Music and Yahoo released a statement on Tuesday, to say that they have reached a licensing deal that will let users upload music or video files.
Sony BMG artists include Alicia Keys, Britney Spears, Avril Lavigne, Jennifer Lopez and the Backstreet Boys.
The Sony BMG-Yahoo deal reflects the popularity of computer user-created videos, which often include copyrighted content.

Britney Spears' long awaited return to the charts is confounding critics
who had written off any sort of comeback. After her recent performance
at the MTV Video Music awards the ever modest Simon Cowell even offered
step in to save her floundering career.
How wrong they were. Gimme More, the star's newest offering has leaped
into the Irish charts at number five and is fast becoming one of the
most requested singles of the year.

Enrique performed to over 4,000 fans in Dublin's 'Big Top' In the Phoenix Park on Monday Night.
He carried out an energetic performance with popular hits such as Hero, Escape, Not In Love, Do You Know, Tired Of Being Sorry and Dont Turn Off The Lights.
Enrique picked 3 lucky fans to go up on stage with him. A Korean Couple who Enrique sang two songs to, Then a few minutes later offered shots of Vodka to them, which they politely cheered to and then the girl asked for water instead!
He then picked a Girl from Dublin to go up on stage, while he sang 'Hero'.
This was by far an excellent concert, great band, great perfomer, great songs, great stage set up makes for a great atmosphere.

Westlife 'Back Home' Signing HMV - 2nd November 2007
Westlife were in HMV, Grafton Street today to sign there
brand new album 'Back Home' for 500 lucky fans.
This is Westlife's 9th album since they began in 1999.
Shane, Mark, Kian and Nicky will soon be celebrating their 10th year in the band.
They have just announced exclusively that they will be performing June 1st in Croke Park next summer.
They will be touring for 5 months from Febuary to June 2008

Hayden Panettiere Raises Awarness of Brutal Killings of Thousands of Dolphins in Japan
Japans annual slaughter of thousands of Dolphins has begun.
Hayden Panettiere, 18 (star of the TV show Hereos) along with friends tried to free Dolphins from being slaughter yesterday. They swam over to a group of dolphins on their surf boards to try and rip the nets which enclosed the dolphins, it wasnt too long until Dolpin fisherman retaliated.
Hayden and friends were brought to tears when they realised that there was nothing they could do to save these dolphins.
Panettiere along with her five surfers friends, quickly drove to Osaka airport where they left the country immediately to avoid arrest.

These girls have sold a staggering 5 million albums

on (October 3rd) today in his last ready-to-wear show before retiring after 45 years in fashion.

One of the undisputed kings of fashion, Valentino will retire in January.

Quentin Tarantino - HMV Dublin Signing - 14th September 2007
Quentin Tarantino was in Dublin city last Friday, promoting his new film 'Death Proof'.
250 Lucky fans got to meet Tarantino, each getting a signed script from his latest film.
'Death Proof' is in Cinemas in Ireland from the 20th of September.

Colin Farrell helps Toronto homeless man
"Colin is one nice Irish lad!"
The Toronto Sun reports that Colin Farrell helped a homeless guy out. The man known as Stress actually met
Colin four years ago while Colin was in town shooting a movie. At the time, a radio station was offering $2,000 to
anyone who could get Colin down to the station.
Stress did just that.
The two reunited this week after running into each other on the street. Colin took him over to a local
shop where reports are saying he told employees, Get him anything he wants.
Stress went on to buy $2,100 worth of merchandise. But, Colins generosity doesnt end there.
He also paid a one year lease for Stress, reportedly worth about $10,000.
It seems Colin is one nice Irish lad!
Layla, Nick Carter's dog, leaves Hernando, Florida for California

Layla has left the building - the Hernando County Animal Services shelter, that is.
The pit bull mix belonging to Backstreet Boy Nick Carter is on her way back to
California to be reunited with her owner. The dog was left in one of the agency's night
drop cages Augusth 26th. Officials identified Layla using a microchip in the dog's neck.
"She was a pleasure while she was here," said county Animal Services manager Liana Teague.
Just how Layla ended up in Hernando remains a mystery. Carter's publicist has said the dog was with
family members while Carter traveled.

I will arise and go now, and go to Sligo Live! From one of the past great masters of the pen, W.B. Yeats,
to one of the great masters of Irish Dance and Irish concert flute playing, Michael Flatley will launch the Sligo Live Festival 2007 from the W.B.Yeats monument in Stephens Street, Sligo on Thursday, 13th September @ 2pm.
He will be joined by Mayor of Sligo Councillor Jonathan Mc Goldrick, Dervish, organisers of the Sligo Live Festival 2007.
Michael will meet fans and Sligo friends in front of the W.B. Yeats monument, recognising the wonderful work that Sligo Live is doing to promote great music, most notably Irish Traditional Music. Michael will kick start a rousing music session in typical Sligo Style where he will be joined by musicians from the region including Matt Molloy, Dervish and other special guests. The Mayor of Sligo, Councillor Jonathan Mc Goldrick will host a civic reception in Sligo's City Hall that evening, to honour Michaels return to his Sligo roots.
The Sligo Live Festival runs from Wednesday, 24th October to Monday, 29th October 2007 in a selection of Sligo venues.
